Root Canal

Endodontics is the branch of dentistry that focuses on the treatment of the nerves and blood vessels found inside your tooth. An endodontic specialist is a dentist who has received extensive training and expertise in the treatment of these issues.

Harcourt Dental Clinic has a highly skilled and qualified endodontist who can perform root canal procedures using cutting-edge technology to ensure that the treatment is done to the highest quality possible, saving the tooth in the affected area and avoiding the need for extraction where possible. In some less complex cases, our general dentist can also perform root canal treatment.

What is root canal treatment?

It is a procedure carried out to relieve pain and save a tooth that has been damaged by decay, infection, or fracture.

What is involved in root canal treatment?

Unless referred by your dentist and treatment is already confirmed, you would usually see the specialist for a consultation. We would schedule treatment after you have fully understood your options and costs. Local anesthesia is used to make the procedure as painless as possible, and the root canal system in the tooth is cleaned and filled so that you are no longer in pain. Following that, the tooth may require a filling or a crown. This would be discussed at your appointment and in most cases you would return to your referring dentist for the crown if required.

Will root canal treatment hurt?

Endodontic procedures are performed to relieve the pain of toothaches caused by pulp inflammation or infection. Most patients report that they are comfortable during the procedure. For the first few days after treatment, your tooth may feel sensitive, especially if there was pain or infection before the procedure.

What is the alternative to root canal treatment?

It would be to remove the tooth entirely. We recommend that you save your natural teeth whenever possible. When a tooth is lost, the gap should be filled with a denture, implant, or bridge to restore chewing function and appearance.

How much will the procedure cost?

Costs vary depending on whether you see the general dentist or the endodontist (root canal specialist) and which tooth is being treated.

Root canal treatment with general dentist: €350 – €650
Root canal treatment with the specialist endodontist: €550 – €850
The above costs do not include a filling / crown if required.
