Dental Crowns & Bridges

Crowns and bridges are among the most reliable and cost-effective treatments for restoring function and aesthetics when things go wrong with teeth.
Harcourt Dental Clinic collaborates with an award-winning dental laboratory to create high-quality dental restorations.

Our crowns and bridges, which are available in a variety of materials, combine stunning artistry with cutting-edge technology and materials to create ultra-naturalistic solutions that are built to last.

Porcelain crowns protect against further damage, extending the natural life of broken or failing teeth. When teeth are missing or require extraction our dental bridges fill the gap with long-term support from the teeth on either side.

What are dental crowns used for?

A dental crown is a restorative solution for the following:

  • A decayed tooth
  • A broken or cracked tooth
  • To support a tooth which is predominantly filling or had root canal treatment
  • To support a dental bridge
  • To cover crooked or discolored teeth

A dental crown is usually done over two visits and involves the use of a dental laboratory. The tooth is prepared to allow for the new crown to fit perfectly. In between the two appointments you will be made a temporary crown until your permanent crown is fitted. The permanent crown will not be fitted until you are entirely happy with the shape, color and fit.

How long do crowns and bridges last?

Crowns and bridges generally last for about 10-15 years. However, many patients will have their crowns and/or bridges for a lifetime.

Different types of bridges:

Conventional Fixed Bridge

A conventional bridge is a fixed (non-removable) restoration and is an excellent way to replace missing teeth.

There are several types of bridges. Our knowledgeable specialists can advise you on the best options for your specific situation. The most common type is the traditional conventional bridge, which is typically made of porcelain fused to metal. This bridge is made up of two crowns that are placed over adjacent teeth on either side of the gap, and one, two, or more artificial porcelain teeth are connected between the two crowns. This gives the appearance of natural-looking teeth that function similarly to your own teeth because they are attached permanently in your mouth and are not removable.

Resin bonded bridge

A Resin Bonded bridge is a high-strength restoration used to replace a missing tooth with an artificial porcelain tooth attached to the adjacent tooth by a metal wing retainer.

In comparison, this bridge is a much more conservative approach than a traditional fixed bridge, requiring little or no preparation of the adjacent teeth. Its limitation is the strength of the bond to the tooth and whether it can withstand the stresses of eating and possibly grinding. Your prosthodontist will discuss with you whether this is a good option for replacing a missing tooth or teeth.

Aftercare of crowns and bridges

We will provide you with all the necessary care instructions after your crown or bridge is fitted, but you are always welcome to contact us if you require additional information or experience any problems following treatment.

We recommend regular check-ups, as this allows us to monitor the condition of your crown or bridge and ensure you are properly caring for them. Prioritising good communication with your dentist will help your crown or bridge last as long as possible while also keeping your natural teeth and gums healthy.

As a general instruction, you should treat your dental crown or bridge the same way you would your natural teeth: brush twice daily with a non-abrasive toothpaste and floss twice daily. You will be unable to use regular floss to clean your bridge; instead, you will be shown an alternative method for cleaning beneath the bridge using interdental brushes or super floss. Your crown or bridge will need to be replaced at some point; however, maintaining good oral hygiene can delay the need for replacement.

How much do crowns and bridges cost?

Each patient is unique, with unique needs. Our specialists strive to give you a long-lasting smile that is as individual as you are. As a result, the cost of crowns and bridges varies depending on the individual.

Porcelain crowns start at €800 and 3 unit bridges start at €2470.
